We would like to share several trends in UX design to watch for in 2024, crafted by Craft Innovations team, if you aim to maintain high customer satisfaction and digital touchpoint business performance.
1. AI takes the lead (no surprise)
We recommend examining your customer experience with AI from three perspectives:
- General availability and native integration into user flows (Web/App), often referred to as co-piloting;
- Support for voice interaction, especially if your product or service is suitable for a private environment where users can vocally articulate prompts. Focus on designing an effective Voice User Interface (VUI);
- Data privacy when interacting with Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI types. Strive for transparency in how technology uses user data. A lack of transparency can significantly reduce product adoption.
❗ Always provide users with the option to opt out of AI usage.
2. Micro animations
Users tend to remember emotions more than their actions with your product. Micro animations enliven interactions, making people smile and feel engaged, which benefits retention and Net Promoter Scores. Aim for creativity while maintaining consistency.
3. Human-generated content
Despite the hype around GPT and SEO experts producing massive amounts of content with LLMs, it often turns out to be boring, generic, and lacking a personal touch. This results in lower engagement metrics and decreased trust. Use AI capabilities judiciously and highlight your human experts 🧠 .
4. Sustainable UX design
Sustainable UX design is becoming increasingly important. UX design directly impacts the carbon footprint by influencing the resources used (data processing, energy consumption) when users complete tasks. While currently more relevant in mature markets like North America and Scandinavia, it’s hoped that senior UX designers worldwide will prioritize this.
5. Minimalism and bold typography
In UI, the focus will continue to be minimalism and bold typography. The rationale is simple – user time is the most valuable asset, and products and services must deliver an effortless experience. Minimalism is favoured as this type of design reduces cognitive load.
